The EMEA Senior Operational Risk Manager leads the program strategy and framework implementation to ensure effective identification, measurement, control and management of SSGA operational risk in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. The role includes program oversight for all asset management activities within the region, as well as any support or sub-delegated responsibilities outside of the region.
Sitting in the 2nd line of defence, this Vice President role reports to the Global Head of SSGA Operational Risk, providing global functional leadership and strong cross risk discipline vision within the EMEA region. We are a diverse team of risk professionals based in London, Dublin and Poland, together with the US and Asia. As a combined group, the team is responsible for identification, control and reporting of operational, investment, credit and liquidity risk globally.

Develop, direct and lead overall operational risk program and framework of SSGA EMEA’s business units, together with ensuring the region’s ongoing quality of business unit programs.
Lead the team in the facilitation of regulatory requirements such as ICAAP risk assessments and risk identification workshops for relevant entities.
Ensure that operational risk programs address all relevant risks as well as corporate and local requirements, collaborating with Finance, Compliance, Legal, and Corporate Audit to ensure a holistic view/management of risk.
Provide education and tools to the 1st line business to promote/enable self-assessment, measurement, reporting and management of operational risk.
Closely collaborate with EMEA Head of Risk and leaders from other EMEA risk disciplines to maintain proper local governance structures.
Monitor applicable changes in the risk profile and actively incorporate them into change management processes and the overall risk program.
Provide strategic oversight of business line development through identification and communication of emerging risks and themes.
Serve in industry committees.
Work closely with management to establish an appropriate culture in line with the agreed risk appetite throughout the business units.
Lead all hiring, mentoring, performance, and development of Operational Risk staff in the EMEA region.
Act as primary liaison with agencies, internal and external advisors and other internal control groups on operational risk issues.
Ensure that risk management information is produced and reviewed at appropriate intervals.
Report regularly to corporate, local and regional governance committees, including but not limited to the EMEA Risk Committee, the Senior Management Committee, and legal entity Boards with timely and relevant risk data.
Co-Chair the SSGA EMEA Operational Risk Committee and ensure agenda and information provided aids members – 1st and 2nd line SSGA management, with decision making and goals to understand and reduce operational risk.
Develop effective working relationships and communications with staff and ensure that staff are motivated, developed and supported.
Support a culture of risk transparency and effective challenge.
Maintain the highest standards of conduct and integrity and ensure compliance with accepted industry practice, company policies, statute and regulatory requirements..
You will have 8-12 years of asset management experience, with at least a substantive portion in Enterprise Risk Management, Compliance or other control function. You will be able to demonstrate knowledge of process and control design, assessment and leading practices within the industry. With a real passion for complex problem solving and skill in strategies to drive engagement and transparency, you will drive a shred sense of urgency in others.
Adept at operating in dynamic environments, your exceptional program leadership, influence and relationship skills will help in working together in a team to deliver to deadlines. Your skills in building strong internal partnerships will help you build relationships with portfolio managers, traders, client facing teams, operational staff and senior management while also injecting objective oversight when needed.
The operational risk team in EMEA is located in multiple locations and you will need to show a consistent track record in leading, coaching and collaborating with staff across multiple locations.
